Hezbollah seeks to reassure Lebanon over probe (AP)

BEIRUT ? The leader of Hezbollah sought to reassure Lebanon on Thursday that he has no interest in stirring up trouble over an international investigation that has targeted members of his Shiite militant group.

Lebanon is deeply divided over a U.N.-backed tribunal investigating the 2005 assassination of Rafik Hariri, a former prime minister and billionaire statesman. There were concerns the country could be facing a political crisis after Lebanon agreed to fund the court this week, against the wishes of Hezbollah, the most powerful military and political force in Lebanon.

But on Thursday, Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah said he will put the country's interests ahead of everything else.

"Although we reject the legitimacy and funding and cooperation with this tribunal, we will not cause problems in the country and we will put national interests above any other consideration," Nasrallah said in a televised appearance.

The investigation into Hariri's death ? and the degree to which the Lebanese authorities should cooperate with it ? has become one of the most divisive issues in Lebanese politics in recent years.

Hezbollah strongly denies any link to the crime and says the court is a Western tool to strike at the anti-Israel group.

Hezbollah and its allies, which hold a majority in the Cabinet, were expected to block the funding for the court during a vote this week.

But on Wednesday, Prime Minister Najib Mikati said he already had secured Lebanon's $36 million share of funding. Mikati did not say how he secured the money and Nasrallah also said he did not know the details.

Anderson Cooper: Ed Schultz Is 'Silly' For Attacking Me Over GQ Article (VIDEO)

Anderson Cooper ripped into Ed Schultz on his Friday show, putting his MSNBC rival on his Ridiculist for some comments Schultz made about him earlier in the week.

After being named one of GQ's "Least Influential People Alive," Schultz took to his radio show on Thursday and denounced the choice. He also said, "I know that Anderson Cooper floats around in that GQ crowd. I don't know whether he's behind it or their publicists at CNN, but let me just say I'm kicking his ass."

Not surprisingly, Cooper took umbrage at this contention. After saying he thinks cable news feuds are "stupid," he proceeded to embark on a monologue studded with casual viciousness about Schultz. He said he didn't even know who Schultz was, except that "I'm told he yells a lot, and I know he works at MSNBC and I know he's moved around in various time slots." He also replayed the comments Schultz made about Laura Ingraham that got him suspended, saying, "Mr. Schultz has a pretty thin skin for someone who goes around calling people sluts."

Then he played the "kicking his ass comments," and reacted by spluttering, "What? Here I am just living my life doing my thing, and this person I don't even know says this." He also mocked the notion that he has any sway over GQ's editorial decisions.

Top beefs against credit card issuers listed

By Bob Sullivan

Given a chance to complain, credit card consumers jumped at the opportunity.?

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau opened for business earlier this year, and its first actions were to solicit consumer complaints about credit cards and set up a system for resolving disputes.? In three months ending Oct. 21, cardholders filed more than 5,000 complaints and requests for?help.

An interim report issued this week offers insight into the bank practices that most bug consumers:? Billing disputes, collection practices, and debt protection sales pitches. Surprisingly, late fees did not crack the top 10.??

Mysterious fine print is a common thread through many of the complaints.

"The biggest thing we see is consumer confusion," said bureau spokeswoman Jennifer Howard.? "Customers and credit card issuers aren't always on same page when it comes to understanding the terms of the deal."

According to the report, account holders struggle to understand both terms of their contracts and details of additional offers like debt protection.? There's a "mismatch between consumer expectations and the way the product functions," the report says.

A big part of the bureau's mandate is to act as an express route for resolution of consumer issues. Of the 5,000-odd complaints submitted, 4,254 were forwarded to the bank involved; banks said they'd resolved 3,151 of those. Consumers disagreed about that satisfaction rate, with only 2,238 agreeing that their dispute had been solved. Another 500 said their complaints were pending.

The text of the complaints is not public, but the bureau is working on a method for providing "public reports" that will include "certain aspects of credit card complaint data."

Meanwhile, the bureau will soon begin accepting complaints about other financial products, such as mortgages and home equity loans.

?When consumers contact us, we get a snapshot of how the consumer finance markets are working,? said Raj Date, a special adviser to the secretary of the Treasury for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. "We will continue to work with consumers, credit card companies, government agencies, and others to improve consumer education and ensure CFPB?s regulation, supervision, and enforcement efforts are effective.?

Texas asks top court to stop congressional map (Reuters)

WASHINGTON (Reuters) ? Texas asked the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday to stop implementation of an interim Texas map for congressional districts that was crafted by a panel of federal judges and could favor minorities and Democrats in 2012 elections.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott made the emergency request in opposing the court-drawn congressional redistricting plan. Abbott, a Republican, asked the Supreme Court on Monday to suspend maps created by the judges for 2012 state Legislature elections.

Abbott argued the federal district court panel in San Antonio erred by refusing to defer to the Legislature's plan, and that the wholesale revisions of the maps were unjustified.

The maps, which could lead to greater representation for minorities and Democrats, were drafted earlier this month after minority groups challenged the original plans adopted by the Republican-dominated state Legislature.

Rewriting the Texas districts has become a major political and legal issue because of sharp growth over the past decade in the state's population.

Texas received four new congressional seats after the 2010 U.S. census, largely because of the rapidly growing Hispanic population. The state Legislature's plan created only one new heavily Hispanic district.

The U.S. Justice Department, which determines whether new maps in some states comply with federal civil rights laws, opposed the state's congressional redistricting plan.

Abbott said the court-drawn plan dramatically changed more than half of the 150 districts in the Texas House of Representatives, altered five of 31 state Senate districts and changed all 36 congressional districts from the state's plan.

Candidates for the 2012 elections must file by December 15, 2011. The primary elections are scheduled for March 6.

"Legal, delayed elections are preferable to legally flawed, timely elections," Abbott said in asking the Supreme Court to put on hold the primary elections if necessary.

The interim maps drawn by the judges were designed to remain in place until the legal battle over the redistricting plans has been resolved.

A separate three-judge panel in Washington is expected to hold a trial in considering whether to approve or reject the redistricting plans.

The Supreme Court cases are Perry v. Perez, No 11-A520, Perry v. Davis, No. 11-A521, and Perry v. Perez, No. 11-A536.

Taylor Swift is giving her fans a little treat for the holidays: a brand-new music video. The singer will drop the clip for her Speak Now ballad "Ours" on E! on Friday evening.

In a photo tease from the video, Swift sits on a bed in just a white, oversize cardigan, her hair swept up, looking off into the distance. Swift performed the song at the CMA Awards earlier this month. For the performance, she kept it equally simple, sitting on a big, comfy couch, strumming her guitar.

The track, featured on a bonus edition of her chart-topping 2010 album, is a country-tinged ditty about falling for someone everyone thinks you shouldn't. On it, she sings, " 'Cause I love the gap between your teeth/ And I love the riddles that you speak/ And any snide remarks from my father about your tattoos will be ignored/ 'Cause my heart is yours."

The timing of the video release comes just as Swift is knee-deep in writing her next album. "I've just been so excited about what's gonna happen in the next year," she said. "I'm also really excited about [the next album]. I've been writing all the time. I've been writing so much for the new record. I can't believe I'm saying that already: It comes out in a year, but I'm already excited about it."

As the year wraps up, Swift's schedule remains busy until the holidays. She was on hand Tuesday night for a taping of CMT Artists of the Year in Nashville. It airs December 13 and will also feature Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney, Lady Antebellum and Brad Paisley.

But perhaps what has Swift the most pumped is the holiday season. "I'm excited about the holidays," she said. "I love Christmas. I love the whole buildup to Christmas and the way that everything is exciting and wintergreen-ish and Christmas tree-ish."

What are you expecting from the "Ours" video? Let us know in the comments!

People's Court Scandal: Dale Smith Targeted By Police in Michelle Parker Disappearance

Michelle Parker and Dale Smith, a formerly engaged couple, appeared on the People's Court earlier this month. After the show, Parker mysteriously vanished.

Now Smith is in the wind as well, having just been named the primary suspect in her disappearance, according to Orlando, Fla., Police Chief Paul Rooney.

Officials confirm Smith, who appeared with Michelle Parker on the show, arguing over the engagement ring he have her, is the target of the investigation.

Chief Rooney says Smith refused to take a polygraph test in the case.

Parker's mother, Yvonne Stewart, made a plea during a Monday news conference: "If you could have avoided this Dale, if you had cooperated with the police and if you took a polygraph test when they asked you, you could have avoided a lot of stress."

"We're not going to stop until we find out who did this," she adds.

According to public records, the pair was involved in a domestic violence case involving children in 2009. Parker and Smith have 3-year-old twins together.

Parker has been missing since Nov. 17, the day the show aired.
